Top 10 world record for fireworks

Let's explore some of the Guinness world records related to fireworks. The following explosive records have been taken from the Guinness world records website site.

1. LARGEST AERIAL FIREWORK SHELL

On 9 September 2014, the largest aerial firework is fired at the Japanese Katakai-Matsuri Festival in Honshu, Japan. Now an annual event, the "Yonshakudama" shell is loaded into a pipe canon every 9th and 10th September.

It is fired to a height of around 850 m (2,700 ft) and was measured to bloom into a rosette form of about 800 m (2,624 ft) in diameter.

At 120 cm (just over 47 in) in diameter and weighing 460 kg (1,014 lb), the firework was created by Honda Masanori's Katakai Fireworks Co in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, and cost around $1,500 (£1,150; €1,330) at 2016 prices.

2. HIGHEST FIREWORKS ON A BUILDING

On New Year's Eve 2015, the world's tallest building – the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates – hosted a display in which fireworks erupted from every side (and the top) of the 828-m (2,716-ft 6-in) skyscraper. In a little under 10 minutes, more than 1.6 tonnes (3,527 pounds) of fireworks were released.

3. MOST FIREWORK SHELLS LAUNCHED PER MINUTE

Dubai has a history of putting on extravagant pyrotechnics shows to welcome the new year in. The 2013 event broke the record for the most firework shells launched per minute as 479,651 shells were fired in just six minutes – an incredible rate of 79,941 fireworks per minute.

4. LARGEST FIREWORK MAP OF THE WORLD

The same show included the "World Islands" resort in the Persian Gulf.

Taking the form of a map of the world via 300 islands, the view from above the islands showed all seven continents of the world. During the display, air-burst shells outlined each of the continents in a pyrotechnic depiction of the Earth's landmasses.

5. LARGEST FIREWORK DISPLAY

The largest firework display consisted of 810,904 fireworks and was achieved by Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) (Philippines), at the Countdown to 2016 New Year Celebrations, in the Philippine Arena, Ciudad de Victoria Bocaue Bulacan, Manila, Philippines, on 1 January 2016.

The display began at the stroke of midnight 2016 and lasted for 1 hour 1 minute 32.35 seconds, in the pouring rain.

6. LARGEST "SPARKLER" CANDLE

On New Year's Eve 2015, the 28-year-old Yuriy Yaniv from Kiev, Ukraine, set alight an unusual composite firework of his own creation. It comprised 10,000 sparklers bound tightly together in a ceramic pot with cardboard, dirt and kitchen tin foil. In all, it weighed around 50 kg (110 pounds). The firework's ignition create a gigantic tower of sparks covering around 2 m (6.5 ft) in diameter.

Had they been lit individually, the sparklers would have burned for a total of two days.

7. FIRST MULTI-SENSORY FIREWORK DISPLAY

For the London, UK, New Year's Eve display of 2013–14, fireworks were complemented by taste and smell.

Around 50,000 people watching between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge experienced different-coloured fireworks matched to fruity flavours in smell and taste.

Red pyrotechnics were accompanied by a strawberry-flavoured cloud. Other colours triggered smelling and tasting clouds of commensurately coloured apple, cherry and strawberry mist, along with peach snow, "floating oranges" (thousands of bubbles filled with Seville-orange-flavoured smoke) and edible banana confetti. Food scientists Bompas & Parr were at the heart of this creation, and while all fireworks have some element of cordite smoke and taste, this was the first display to match fruit smells and flavours to the audio-visual elements.

8. LARGEST CATHERINE WHEEL

The largest Catherine wheel measured 32.044 m (105 ft 1.56 in) in diameter and was built by Lily Fireworks Factory, in Mqabba, Malta, on 18 June 2011. The structure was free-standing and the Catherine wheel completed 4 revolutions under its own propulsion.

9. MOST FIREWORKS LAUNCHED FROM A PYROTECHNICS SUIT

The most fireworks launched from a pyrotechnics suit is 642, which was achieved by Mazuel Laurent Nat (France) in Grenoble, France, on 13 June 2014.

10. LONGEST FIREWORK WATERFALL

The world's longest firework waterfall was the “Niagara Falls”, which measured 3,517.23 m (11,539 ft 5 in) when ignited on 23 August 2008 at the Ariake Seas Fireworks Festival, Fukuoka, Japan.
